2nd place female! #running #runner #halfmarathon
Trail half tomorrow!
I’m excited :) finally
I’ve shared on my other social media pages, so I figured I’d put this here too….
I’ve run 20 marathons. All of them, I’ve run for myself — to accomplish a personal goal, set a new PR, cross off a new state.
In Chicago, I’m going to run in honor of my grandmother, Mary Scoggins, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and died last November.
Alzheimer’s is an awful disease that attacks the whole family. Each time my grandmommie couldn’t recognize me or another family member, my heart hurt. I know she battled frustration and confusion daily. She had days and hours when her mind was sharp, and we would talk about family memories, her love of music, and crossword puzzle. Those moments were priceless. They also made the opposite times even more difficult.
Grandmommie had a tremendous impact on my life, and I will always love her. Thank you to anyone who considers donating money here to go for reasearch to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
Each step I take from now through Oct. 12 will be dedicated to my Grandmommie. I’m running for her.
So as some of you know, my wife qualified for the World Food Championships — which is a pretty big deal. If she’s able to go, I’ll also be attending as her sous-chef (in my distant past I cooked professionally). Unfortunately it’s a fairly expensive undertaking. Originally we thought that we’d be able to use a family member’s air miles, but that didn’t pan out. So my wife started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover some costs, hoping that friends and family could be pestered into supporting us.
My real friends are my tumblr friends. So tumblr friends, consider yourselves pestered. If you could make a contribution of any size, that would be fantastic. If not, that’s okay too (I know what it’s like; I try to contribute at least a little to things like this, but I don’t always).
Thanks to anyone who can help. You’re the best.
Help a friend out. He’s pretty awesome :)
Can’t get first overall? Get first in your age group! Sub-20:00 effort today. I need to do more speed work 😊 #running
Who knows if I can actually do it, but at least it’s motivation to train hard this winter! I’ll definitely need to follow a solid plan for that crazy goal though.
And robert-cal, I think a 3:05 would be sufficient for all but one of the guys, but I think the last one would be impressed either way!
I might as well at least post it at least on here…
I was talking trash the other night when talking about Boston, and one of the guys I run with said that it’s so much easier to qualify if you’re a girl. So I told him that I could totally run a 3:05 if I had to.
Now it looks like I have a lot of training to do this winter, because the guys want to see a sub-3:00. Ah, what the hell… It gives me motivation to train.
(And I just received confirmation that I’ll earn a six pack of good beer if I do it)
